St. Paul, Lewis Mills, Goodwin football tri-op to continue

The CIAC has given the St. Paul, Lewis Mills and Goodwin Tech football tri-op an extended year of participation, Lewis Mills athletic director Dave Tanner announced. The team will be open to any student attending any of the three schools next fall.

This is a one-year extension that will then be reevaluated at the conclusion of the fall season. Reevaluation is primarily based on the total number of players in the program with the limit for co-op or tri-op football teams being 74. This past fall the team finished with 66 players on its roster.
Laurye Natale, a leading member of the Region 10 football booster club, talked of splitting from the tri-op to begin a Lewis Mills football program as soon as the fall season.
But the turnaround needed to pull that off was unlikely to happen, making the extension neccessary.
Natale and the booster club are hoping that, one day, the team will have its own football squad.
"It's never the same playing for another school than it is when you're out there representing your actual high school," Natale told The Press three weeks ago. "Kids want to play for their school. ... They take a lot of pride in that."

Martin nets eight
Seventh-grader Marisa Martin of Bristol scored eight points as the Mooreland Hill School (Kensington) girls basketball team defeated Chase Collegiate in a 29-10 victory at home on Jan. 29. Martin also made some key assists in the game.
Seventh-grader Kate Love of Berlin was the high scorer with 13 points.
