"They are a well-rounded football team," Bemis said. "They seem to have everything going. Theyve got a great running game, theyve got a great passing game. Theyve a very good defense. Theyre doing what it takes to get the job done ..They do have the total package."
On this day, the central cog to the Northwest machine was captain Pete Andruszkiewicz, who ran for 107 yards and three scores, and caught five balls for 93 yards and a touchdown. Andruszkiewicz had touchdown runs of 35, 5, and 66 and twice he went the distance on third-and-short situations in which the Farmington defense looked surprised by the play call. His touchdown reception from Mike Bourdon went just over the reach of the Farmington defender.
"Anything that could go wrong went for the worst," Bemis said. "Everything that went wrong went for a touchdown. They had great field position all game long."
Northwest countered Andruszkiewicz with 55" running back Rich Kevorkian, who had an efficient 99 yards on 16 carries. Both backs benefited from a significant size advantage on the line.
"When you got big boys up front that are just pushing everybody all over the place, I mean, its tough to find [Kevorkian], you cant see him," Bemis said. "If its not him its somebody else. When you have big boys who can do that, anything works."
In the first quarter, the Farmington defense proved capable of withstanding several blows from its opponent, keeping the game scoreless most of the frame. Furthermore, Farmington showed flashes of offense from Harrington and his receivers. The players used short passes and yardage after the catch, but could not sustain a drive long enough to score, partly because their average starting field position was their own 25.
"We were stuck down here at the 20 trying to fight to get to the 50," Bemis said. "We just couldnt sustain it for an entire 80 yards."
Farmington receiver Marc Wilson had 90 yards on nine catches, along with 48 yards on 5 catches for R.J. Simeone.
Northwests final touchdown came on a bad fumble snap for Farmington, which rolled back to the endzone where it was recovered by Tom Heslin. Kicker Rob Dornfried was a perfect 5-5 on extra points and kicked a 24-yard field goal. He also booted both a punt and a kickoff for touchbacks.
Northwest, looking to close out the Nutmeg League in undefeated fashion, plays East Catholic and Plainville in its last two games. Farmington (2-6) plays Plainville before a Thanksgiving matchup with Avon.
